Your first tattoo: making a considered choice

Your first tattoo can be exciting without being rushed. A good consultation helps you choose the motif, size and placement consciously and clarify health or practical questions before the appointment.

What do you want for your body in the long term?

Think beyond whether you like one motif today. Do you want to add more tattoos later, build a connected project or collect separate pieces? A very small or awkwardly placed tattoo can limit future ideas.

Size and detail belong together. Not every detailed design ages well in every format. Responsible advice may therefore mean making a motif larger, simpler or placing it elsewhere.

How visible should it be?

Consider whether you want to show the tattoo every day or be able to cover it with clothing. Think about your possible education or career path: could there be dress codes, safety requirements or situations in which a visible tattoo would feel uncomfortable to you?

Visible tattoos are not automatically a problem. The decision should simply suit your own life. I take an especially long-term approach with younger clients and do not rush into highly exposed placements such as hands, neck or face.

Does the decision genuinely feel like yours?

Ask yourself: do I want this particular motif, or mainly any tattoo? Do I like its meaning as much as its appearance? Would I still choose it without friends, trends or social media influencing me? Can I imagine enjoying it in this place years from now?

Reference images help communicate style and mood; they are not simply copied. A consultation can turn them into a design that suits you, the placement and a technically sound execution.

Names or unmistakable symbols for a partner deserve particular thought. Relationships and circumstances can change, but a tattoo remains. Removal is demanding and may not erase it completely, while a later cover-up needs enough space and a suitable new design.

Discuss health and preparation openly

Before every tattoo, you receive information about risks, care, possible reactions and the permanent change to the skin. Mention medication, allergies, medical conditions, changes to the skin or uncertainty early so it can be clarified whether more information or medical assessment is needed.

Austria has additional rules for minors. Tattooing anyone under 16 is prohibited. At 16 or 17, legally valid written consent from a parent or legal guardian is also required. These are the statutory minimum rules. LUNART deliberately applies stricter rules for minors: the parent or legal guardian attends the studio in person, both people bring valid photo ID and the consent is signed on site.

A consultation is always available

You do not need to arrive with a finished design. If this is your first tattoo, you are unsure about size or placement, or something is unclear, you can arrange a personal consultation at the studio before booking the tattoo.

We can discuss the motif, placement, size, preparation, process, aftercare and every open question. A consultation does not commit you to getting tattooed. Send me a message on Instagram if you would like to arrange a personal consultation with me at the studio.
